Dissertation Essays: From Dissertations or about Dissertations?

Types of dissertation essays
Thus, you should remember that there are two basic types of dissertation essays. The first one includes all essays that are parts of dissertations. Although it is not a usual practice, some dissertations can be divided not into chapters but into other units called dissertation essays. Thus, the first type of dissertation essays includes the essays that are parts of dissertations.
The second type is all about usual academic essays that are written in response to a dissertation or as reflections to such works. These dissertation essays differ from the first type by less strict requirements.
Structure of dissertation essays
The structures of both types of dissertation essays are similar. They should as a rule contain such elements as:
- Introduction;
- Main body;
- Conclusion.
Logically, the topic of the essay is introduced, developed, and summed up in a dissertation essay. The difference between the dissertation essays that are parts of dissertations and those being written about dissertations lies in the fact that the former narrow the topic of the dissertation down more than the latter do.
The reason is simple: if a dissertation essay is a part of a larger paper, this paper already has an introduction, and the essay narrows the context of this introduction in its own opening paragraph. If you write about a dissertation in a separate essay, you do not need to narrow the topic down and can simply react to the dissertation you have considered.
